Applies to Cmsmart Product Designer (NBDesigner) 2.17.0 — updated October 2026. A gang sheet builder is a custom build on top of the designer, not a built-in 2.17.0 setting.

In short

  • A gang sheet arranges many designs on one sheet so DTF and similar printers waste less film and run fewer jobs.
  • Cmsmart Product Designer 2.17.0 provides the foundation (custom sizes, uploads, layers, print-ready PDF) but does not ship a gang sheet layout tool as a setting; it is delivered as a custom project.
  • Scope a builder with sheet sizes, copy count, spacing and an export file your printer accepts.

What is a gang sheet?

A gang sheet is one print sheet that holds several customer designs, sized to the printer’s film width. DTF suppliers use them so that many small logos or transfers print together instead of one design per sheet.

Which problems does a gang sheet builder solve?

  • Material waste: designs are packed on the sheet instead of printed one per sheet.
  • Printing time: one job replaces many small ones.
  • Job management: operators receive one finished file rather than arranging designs by hand.
  • Alignment errors: positions are fixed by the layout, not by manual placement.

These are the general reasons shops ask for a builder; measure your own film use and press time before and after.

What can I use from NBDesigner today?

Several building blocks of a gang sheet flow already exist in the plugin:

  • Custom sheet size. A Custom dimension field lets the buyer enter width and height within your min and max, and Allow user define demension does the same from the product box. Price can follow the area (Enable measure price base on design area).
  • Uploads. Customers upload artwork (Enable Upload Design) and place it on the canvas with layers, rotate and resize.
  • Pricing by size or quantity. Printing Options with Price Matrix and Bulk variation.
  • Print file. The customer clicks Process and a print-ready PDF is produced in the background and can be attached to the order email. Since 2.17.0 automatic PDFs for custom-size products use the size the buyer entered, and the order screen shows a print-ready status with a Regenerate button.
  • Order review. Approve or decline each design in Cmsmart › Orders.

What does a custom gang sheet builder add?

The layout logic is the part to build for your printer. In earlier projects the builder let customers upload several designs, set the size, number of copies, direction and gap of each, see the sheet before printing, and finish with a Process step that saves the sheet for production. We list these as examples of a custom scope, not as features of the shipped plugin.

How do I scope a gang sheet builder?

  1. Printer and film. Sheet widths, maximum length, margins and the file format your RIP expects.
  2. Customer inputs. Upload rules, minimum DPI, copies, gaps, rotation, auto-pack or manual placement.
  3. Pricing. By sheet length, area or a price matrix.
  4. Output. PDF or PNG per sheet, delivery by email or by folder sync (FTP, SFTP, Dropbox, Amazon S3 or Google Cloud Storage).
  5. Approval. Preflight and approve in Orders before printing.

Lessons from batch-design projects

  • Prefer drag and drop with numeric fields for size and copies; non-designers need both.
  • Always show the final sheet preview before the customer completes.
  • Let customers save and reopen sheets.
  • Check resolution on upload; low DPI is the main cause of rejected jobs.
