Applies to Cmsmart Product Designer (NBDesigner) 2.17.0 · Updated October 2026. Every screen below is captured from the live NBDesigner demo store and its WooCommerce admin on this version; every figure quoted from outside Cmsmart carries its own source link.

In short

  • Outcome: configure each WooCommerce product once — print specs, design area, sides, pricing — so every design that comes out of it is production-ready and priced correctly, without re-checking orders by hand.
  • How it works: Cmsmart Product Designer's Product Manager turns the Online Designer on per product, the product's own configuration screen sets production specs and canvas sides, and Printing Options attach a price matrix to the variations you actually sell.
  • What it takes: an active WooCommerce catalog, the NBDesigner plugin, and about ten minutes per product the first time; after that, Cmsmart can template, bulk-apply, or build settings logic the product screen doesn't cover.

You sell more than one kind of printed product, and they are not the same job. A die-cut sticker ships fine from a screen-resolution file; a business card has to leave your shop at 300 DPI in CMYK with a clean bleed; a tote bag prints on one side, a folded card on two. If your store treats every product the same way, somebody downstream pays for that gap: a reprint, a blurry file, a customer who typed in a size that doesn't exist on the real product.

NBDesigner product settings are how Cmsmart Product Designer solves that: set every one of those specifics per product, and they apply automatically when a buyer designs, orders and pays. Below is where those settings live inside WooCommerce admin, what each one changes downstream, and where Cmsmart's custom development team picks up when a product needs more than the settings panel offers.

What does it cost you when product settings are generic, not per-product?

Cmsmart Product Designer stores design and print settings at the product level, so a catalog that mixes stickers, cards and apparel can give each item its own bleed, resolution, color profile and pricing — instead of forcing one generic setup onto a catalog that was never one-size-fits-all.

  • Wrong-size print files. No DPI floor or bleed set lets a buyer upload a 72 DPI phone photo onto a product that needs 300 DPI, and nobody finds out until the file is on press.
  • Prices worked out by hand. Without a price matrix tied to the product's own options (size, sides, material, quantity), every custom quote means rebuilding the math in a spreadsheet.
  • Design areas that don't match the product. A mug wrap and a flat poster need different canvas shapes; one generic design area either crops artwork or leaves dead space.
  • Staff time that scales with orders. Someone opens each order, re-measures the artwork and queries the customer when specs look off — manual work that grows as the shop grows.
  • Abandoned designs at checkout. Baymard Institute's meta-analysis of 50 published studies puts average online cart abandonment at 70.22% (Baymard Institute, 2026); a design step or price that doesn't match the product being bought is one more reason to leave.

What would it look like if every product already matched what you sell?

With Cmsmart's NBDesigner, a buyer who opens any product in your WooCommerce catalog gets a design canvas already matched to that product — the right shape, the right sides, the right price — because you set it once on the product's own settings screen, not on a store-wide default.

Example scenario. A buyer opens a two-sided business card product at 11pm. The canvas opens already sized to the card, with the safe zone and bleed you set once, and it offers front and back sides because you turned that preset on. The price shown for 250 cards with rounded corners is correct because that price matrix lives on the product itself. They design, add to cart and pay. In the morning, the order carries a print file sized exactly like the product you configured — nobody has re-measured anything overnight.

How does Cmsmart structure a product's settings?

Cmsmart's NBDesigner Product Manager turns the Online Designer on per product; that product's own settings screen sets production specs, canvas sides and the designer toggle; Printing Options attach a price matrix — three screens that work together inside your web-to-print workflow so one product's settings never leak into another's.

  • Product Manager (in the plugin) — the catalog view of every design-enabled product: category, base price, status and template count.
  • Product configuration (in the plugin) — per-product production specs: material, bleed area, print resolution, color profile and production time, plus the Online Designer toggle with a 1- or 2-sided preset.
  • Printing Options and price matrix (in the plugin) — fields such as size, sides, material and quantity breaks, each carrying its own price, applied to one product, several, or a whole category.
  • Print-ready output (in the plugin) — the bleed, size and color profile set on the product carry through to the automatic print PDF; as of 2.17, per the plugin's changelog, that file matches the design's exact size even on a custom width and height, instead of falling back to the template's size.
  • Store-specific pricing and production rules (custom development) — tiered B2B price lists, ERP-fed specs, category-level AI preflight: Cmsmart builds these on top of the same product settings when a catalog's logic goes beyond fields and a price matrix.

Cmsmart insight: most of the reprint conversations we see trace back to a product's production specs, not the buyer's artwork — a bleed left at 0mm on a product that needed 3mm, or a resolution floor still at the plugin default instead of the 300 DPI the actual stock needs. Set the real numbers for the material you print on, once, per product, and most of that category of reprint disappears.

NBDesigner is built natively for WooCommerce, which now runs roughly a third of tracked online stores worldwide — 33.4% market share and 4.53 million active stores as of 2025 (Red Stag Fulfillment / StoreLeads, 2025) — so product-level settings live directly inside the catalog screens you already use to manage stock and price.

What's a properly specified product worth to your business?

Per-product settings in Cmsmart's NBDesigner turn a manual, error-prone setup step into a one-time configuration that keeps paying off: fewer reprints, faster quoting, and a checkout that always shows the real price for the real product.

BenefitHow it shows up in your businessKPI to track
Fewer reprintsBuyers can't submit artwork below the DPI floor or outside the bleed you set for that productReprints per 100 orders
Faster quotingQuantity and option pricing already lives on the product; nobody rebuilds a spreadsheet quoteMinutes per custom quote
Fewer abandoned designsThe canvas, sides and price shown always match the exact product the buyer openedDesign-start to add-to-cart rate
Faster new-SKU onboardingA new product reuses an existing printing option set instead of a rebuild from scratchMinutes to list a new design-enabled product

Reprint-cost worksheet (plug in your own numbers): reprints avoided per month × cost per reprint (stock + press time + shipping) = monthly saving from correct per-product specs. Add hours per week spent manually checking artwork or re-quoting × your loaded hourly rate for the staff time reclaimed.

The market you're configuring for is not standing still: the global print-on-demand market was valued at $11.38 billion in 2025 and is projected to reach $61.79 billion by 2034, a 20.06% CAGR (IMARC Group, 2025). Products configured correctly the first time are what let a catalog scale into that demand without scaling the manual checking alongside it.

How do you set up individual product settings in NBDesigner?

Turn the Online Designer on for a product in Cmsmart's Product Manager, set its production specs and sides in that product's own settings screen, attach a price matrix through Printing Options, then confirm the result on the live product page before you publish — the steps below use the exact screens and labels in NBDesigner 2.17.

  1. Open Cmsmart > Product Manager to see every design-enabled product: category, base price, status and template count.
  2. Click a product's configuration icon; confirm the product name, base price and status at the top.
  3. Under Production specs, set the material, bleed area (mm), print resolution (DPI) and color profile for the stock this product prints on — don't leave defaults that belong to another product.
  4. Set the Production time in business days so the order timeline reflects reality.
  5. Under Online Designer, tick Enable the Online Designer for this product and choose a 1-sided or 2-sided preset.
  6. Open Designer config from the quick actions panel for canvas sides, design area and detailed pricing beyond the preset.
  7. Go to Cmsmart > Printing Options and edit an existing option set, or add one for this product's size, sides, material or finish choices.
  8. In the option editor, build the quantity breaks and price matrix, then apply the set to this product — or its category — under Apply for.
  9. Save and publish, then open the product on the storefront to confirm the design button, price and options match.
  10. Place a test design through checkout (stop before payment) and open Create PDF on the order to confirm the file picks up the exact size, margins and bleed you set.

What can Cmsmart build on top of product settings?

When a catalog's pricing or production logic goes beyond fields and a price matrix, Cmsmart's custom development team builds the rule directly into your store — tiered B2B pricing, ERP-fed specs, category-level AI preflight — on top of the same per-product settings you already configured.

  • Tiered B2B pricing per account. Wholesale buyers need different price matrices than retail shoppers, by account or price list, not just by quantity break — Cmsmart builds account-aware pricing on top of NBDesigner's price matrix.
  • ERP/MIS-fed production specs. A print shop running an MIS already holds bleed, stock and DPI per SKU; typing those numbers twice invites drift. Cmsmart builds a sync that keeps each product's configuration current from your MIS.
  • Category-level AI preflight. A sticker and a banner need different resolution and color checks before production. Cmsmart configures Cmsmart Cloud's AI preflight rules per category on top of the specs you've already set.
  • Bulk product-settings rollout. Turning on per-product settings for hundreds of existing SKUs by hand doesn't scale, so Cmsmart scripts a one-time, reviewed rollout from your existing product data.
  • Custom canvas shapes beyond the standard sides. Car wraps, box dielines and other non-rectangular products need a canvas the presets don't cover; Cmsmart builds the shape once and wires it into the same configuration screen.

Each follows the same delivery path: discovery on your catalog and pricing rules, a short solution design, build in sprints against a staging copy of your store, QA against real orders, launch, then support — the process behind every Cmsmart ecommerce project.

Frequently asked questions about NBDesigner product settings

Do I have to set production specs for every product, or can I rely on one default?

WooCommerce → Settings → Cmsmart → Upload and Output hold store-wide defaults for file types and DPI floors. The product's own configuration screen overrides those for anything that genuinely differs — a product on different stock, bleed or color profile should get its own settings.

Can one product have a different price matrix from the rest of my catalog?

Yes. Printing Options apply to a single product, several selected products, or a whole category under "Apply for" in the option editor, so a premium finish or a wholesale size run can carry its own price matrix without touching any other product.

Can a customer still edit their design after I approve it?

No. As of 2.17, an approved design is locked on the server — saving over it is refused with a clear message, whatever link or tab the save comes from, protecting the production specs and artwork you've already signed off on.

Does changing a product's bleed or DPI affect designs customers already saved?

No. Existing saved designs and placed orders keep the specs that were current when they were created; new settings apply only to new designs and renders.

How long does it take to configure an existing catalog of many products?

Budget around ten minutes per product the first time. For a catalog of dozens or hundreds of SKUs, Cmsmart can script a reviewed, one-time rollout instead of doing it product by product.

Can NBDesigner's product settings connect to our ERP or MIS for specs and pricing?

Not out of the box. The product configuration screen and price matrix are built in, but syncing them automatically from an external ERP or MIS is custom development that Cmsmart builds on top of the same settings.
