You add component, text and image fields to an option set, and the buyer configures the product on its page, then opens a Customize step to see the result. The summary lists every choice with its price and the total updates as they go.

The problem
Why configurable products break a normal catalogue
A bike with 7 frame sizes, 2 finishes and several decal and logo sets is a long list of combinations. Each one as a separate product needs its own SKU and photo, and buyers still cannot see their version.
Every combination needs its own variation, photo and price.
Buyers cannot picture the configured product, so they ask before they buy.
Price changes per part are updated by hand across many variations.
Cost of the status quo, with your own numbers: number of SKU combinations x photo cost per SKU.
