Hi everyone,

I’m David – CEO of Cmsmart Ecommerce, Netbase JSC.

Whenever we ship a big release, I know the first thing on a store owner’s mind isn’t the shiny new features — it’s a quieter, more practical question: “Is this update going to break my store? Are my customers’ saved designs safe? Does my license still work?”

So let me answer those first, honestly and in plain language. Then I’ll walk you through what’s new in Cmsmart Product Designer 2.10.0 — and there’s a lot, because this is the release where the plugin grows from “a design canvas” into the place you actually run your print shop from. If you’re coming from the previous version, you can also skim our 2.9.0 release notes for context.

In short: Cmsmart Product Designer 2.10.0 adds a built-in customer CRM, AI print-file preflight, and a cleaner admin with a reorganized Cmsmart menu — and you can now activate your license with just your store email. Updating is safe for existing stores: it only replaces plugin files, so your products, saved designs and customer files are untouched, and your current license keeps working.

Who this guide is for

This is written for the person running a web-to-print or print-on-demand shop on WooCommerce — owners and operators, not developers. If you’re already a Cmsmart customer, the first sections are the important ones for you. If you’re still evaluating us, skip ahead to the feature tour. No code required, either way.

Already running an older version? Please read this first

Will my products, saved designs, and customer files survive the update?

Yes. Updating to 2.10.0 goes through WordPress’s normal plugin updater, which only replaces the plugin’s files. It doesn’t run any database reset, and there is no migration that rewrites or deletes your data. Your product designer settings, your customers’ saved designs, uploaded print files, custom fonts and clipart all stay exactly where they are. The new features that need storage — like the customer list — only add tables; nothing existing is dropped or overwritten. There isn’t even an uninstall routine that removes data.

That said, here’s the grown-up advice my own team follows: before any major update, back up your database and your wp-content/uploads folder. It takes a few minutes and it’s simply good practice — not because 2.10.0 is risky, but because any update on any platform deserves a safety net.

I already have a license key — do I need to do anything?

No. 2.10.0 introduces a new way to activate (more on that below), but it runs alongside the old system — it doesn’t touch keys that are already active. Your existing key keeps working, your Premium stays Premium, and a trial that’s already running keeps running. The manual “paste your key” field is still exactly where it’s always been, as a fallback.

One thing worth knowing for later: when an older key eventually expires, renewing it issues a new key (you’ll paste the new one), the same as before. Only the brand-new, store-based licenses use the “same key upgrades in place” model.

How to update safely (the 2-minute version)

  1. Back up your database + wp-content/uploads.
  2. If you run a staging site, update there first and open your product designer once.
  3. Update the plugin from Plugins → Update, or from the update badge on the Cmsmart menu.
  4. Open Cmsmart → Overview once — that first visit is when a few new helper tables get created, safely, in the background.
  5. Quick smoke test: open one product’s designer on the storefront, and open one recent order to confirm its design still shows.

That’s it. No re-activation, no re-import, no data juggling.

Your license, the new way (and how it compares to the old one)

2.10.0 modernizes how licensing works. Here’s the plain-English before/after:

 BeforeNow (2.10.0)
ActivateCopy a license key and paste it inEnter your store email — one click, no key to paste (paste still available as a fallback)
Free trialGenerated inside the pluginProvisioned from your Cmsmart Dashboard and emailed to you (30 days)
How it’s scopedCounted by number of domainsOne store = one project, with your root domain + unlimited subdomains
Where you manage itScattered; the old dashboard.cmsmart.netOne home: cmsmart.net/dashboard (the old subdomain is retired)
Buy / renew / change domainVarious placesAll in your Cmsmart Dashboard; the plugin’s License screen deep-links to it

What this means for you as an existing customer: nothing you have to redo today. Your current license is untouched. The new model simply makes future purchases, renewals and domain changes live in one predictable place — your dashboard at cmsmart.net/dashboard.

A note so I don’t over-promise: some parts of the new store-based licensing — like a trial upgrading to Premium on the very same key with zero clicks — are still being finished on our side. If you’re on an existing key, you’re on the stable, well-worn path described above.

The License screen is now a clear home base: see your plan, activate, and jump to your dashboard to upgrade or manage domains.

A fresh look — and a menu that’s finally organized

This is the change you’ll feel the moment you log in, so it’s worth a minute.

A cleaner, more consistent design

We rebuilt the admin on a single design system: one brand color, one type scale, consistent spacing, focus rings and shadows, plus reusable pieces like stat cards (icon + number + note), breadcrumbs and tidy key/value panels. It’s applied across the screens you use most — Overview, Orders, Custom Quotes, Clients, Files, Products, Cliparts, License and the detail pages. The result: less visual noise, clearer headings that tell you what each section is for, and a far more professional feel end to end. (The storefront designer your customers use keeps its current look for now — this pass focused on your admin.)

The new “Cmsmart” menu — where everything lives now

Here’s the big orientation change: your admin menu is now called Cmsmart (with its own logo), and the items are grouped under five labelled sections instead of one long flat list. The section headings are just labels — you click the items under them. If you’re used to the old layout, use this as your map:

Quick tip for long-time users: two things moved that people look for — Files now sits under Sales (next to the orders it comes from), and the Quote form builder is now its own menu item under Configuration instead of a tab.

Who supports you now

Short answer: the Ticket workspace, right inside your dashboard. We retired the old in-plugin Support page because it duplicated this. From Cmsmart → Ticket (or any “Support” link) you land in cmsmart.net/dashboard/ticket_workspace, where you can see who’s handling your ticket and reply in a live conversation thread. The License screen also links to AI Insights for usage details. One inbox, one place, no email tag.

The big idea: your designer and your dashboard are now one workflow

Everything above points at the same theme: the plugin you run your store with and the Cmsmart Dashboard you manage your account with have become one system. Start a trial by email → track your license, downloads and orders in the dashboard → renew or upgrade there → read each version’s changelog on the dashboard’s Products page → get support in the ticket workspace. The plugin links straight into all of it, on a single host.

Now, the fun part — what 2.10.0 actually lets you do.

Activate and go live in minutes

First-run setup is dramatically shorter:

  • Activate with your email. On the setup wizard’s first step, your store email is pre-filled and your domain is detected automatically. Click ✦ Activate my license — no key to hunt down or paste. If that email already owns a Cmsmart license, it syncs; if not, we create your free account and start a 30-day trial (no credit card). The manual key field is still there if you prefer it.
  • Import a demo store in the background. Bring in sample products, templates and clipart — and keep working. The import no longer breaks if you close the tab, shows progress with a menu badge, and lets you retry anything that fails.
  • A designer that isn’t empty on day one. A default clipart set installs automatically, so your customers have something to work with from the very first product.

Your morning command center

Open Overview and you get a single screen that tells you where the store stands:

  • KPI tiles for Revenue, Orders, In Production and AI usage.
  • Priority alerts, graded Critical / Attention / Info — things like a missing server component, a license about to lapse, or low AI credits. You hear about it before a customer does.
  • A “Not enabled yet” card — honestly the most profitable thing on the page. It lists products you’ve published but never switched on for customization. That’s revenue sitting one click away.
  • Clients (top spenders in the last 30 days) and a Recent activity feed, so you can read the store’s momentum at a glance.

Turn one-time buyers into regulars

New in 2.10.0: a built-in customer CRM under Sales → Clients — no separate CRM plugin needed.

  • It automatically organizes every buyer, whether they checked out as a guest or a registered account, and segments them by lifecycle: New, Active, At-risk, Churned, VIP.
  • Add tags, send bulk email, and read per-customer metrics (spend, orders, files).
  • A care digest tells you who to follow up with today — the next best action, so a good customer doesn’t quietly drift away.
  • It’s read-only over your WooCommerce data and merges are reversible, so organizing your customers never rewrites an order.

Build a customizable product without a designer

Two screens do the heavy lifting, and both now filter, search and paginate instantly (no page reloads):

  • Products shows every item with its Online Designer status, category, SKU, base price and template count.
  • The product editor keeps commerce and print settings side by side: set material, bleed, DPI and color mode, toggle Online Designer on, and pick a sides preset — all in one place.
  • The rebuilt Template library finally works as a catalog: collections load smoothly, each has a preview, and an “Assign to products” button pushes a whole template set onto the products you choose.

Catch bad print files before they cost you

A low-resolution logo or a missing bleed is a reprint waiting to happen. The Files area plus AI Preflight turn quality into a checkpoint instead of a surprise:

  • The Files list shows every customer artwork with its status — Needs fix, Not checked, Print-ready, Low DPI — so nothing goes to production blind.
  • Open a file and AI Preflight checks resolution, color mode, fonts, bleed and transparency against that product’s print spec, with a bleed/trim preview and one-click actions.

Let AI handle the tedious image work

Under AI Tools, connect your Printcart store to switch on the helpers you and your customers will love:

  • AI Background Remover and AI Image Upscale for cleaner uploads.
  • Preflight Quality Checker as an automated gate.
  • Real metrics for AI operations and defects caught — and in 2.10.0 those numbers reflect actual usage (a bug that used to pin them at 0 is fixed).

Run an order from “placed” to “delivered”

The Orders area is built for fulfillment, not just receipts:

  • The orders list groups by what matters — Awaiting review, In production, Completed — with 30-day revenue and quick actions.
  • The order detail gives you a Placed → Delivered progress bar, line items with the attached design, the file’s preflight result, shipping, payment and internal notes — the whole job on one page.

Start free, upgrade when it pays off

If you’re new or on LITE, the path is simple: start on the 30-day trial (activate by email, above), and when the store is earning, upgrade to Premium to unlock unlimited use, print-ready CMYK/PDF output, and the full AI suite. All of it is managed from your Cmsmart Dashboard — where you’ll also find your downloads, orders, each version’s changelog and support. Need something custom built instead? You can request a quote and our team will scope it with you.

Built to be safe to run

Quietly, 2.10.0 (with the 2.9.1–2.9.2 hardening before it) closes real security gaps so you can run it with confidence:

  • CSRF protection added to the setup wizard.
  • Third-party secrets (Printcart, Firebase, SFTP) can now live in wp-config.php instead of the database.
  • Server-side SVG sanitization, strict upload allowlists, blocked PHP execution in the upload folder, and TLS verification on all license/studio calls (an old open-proxy endpoint was removed).
  • Properly escaped order-export output and rel="noopener" on external links.

Everything new in 2.10.0 (full changelog)

New features

  • Built-in Customer CRM — automatically organizes guest and registered buyers, segments them by lifecycle (New / Active / At-risk / Churned / VIP), supports tags, bulk email and per-customer metrics, adds a “care digest” of who to follow up with, pulls in leads captured from the designer chat, and exports to CSV.
  • Working Template library — collections load asynchronously with previews, and an “Assign to products” button pushes a whole template set onto the products you choose.
  • Unified admin design system — a shared token set (color, typography, spacing, focus-ring, shadow) plus reusable components (stat cards, breadcrumbs, key/value panels) applied across Overview, Orders, Custom Quotes, Clients, Files, Products, Cliparts and License.
  • Instant, no-reload filtering, search & pagination on Manage Products, the Overview scope switch, Cliparts & Backgrounds and Custom Fonts.
  • Redesigned Cliparts & Backgrounds with a default clipart set installed automatically, so the designer is never empty on a brand-new store.
  • Faster Custom Fonts — server-side pagination and a category filter for large font libraries.
  • Background sample-data import — runs in the background, survives closing the tab, lets you retry failed items, and shows a progress badge.
  • Email-based “zero-paste” license activation with secure domain-ownership verification — and the manual key-paste field kept as a fallback.
  • Smarter Overview — graded alerts (Critical / Attention / Info) for server health, license status and AI credits; a “Not enabled yet” card; plus Clients and Recent activity.
  • Real-data AI metrics — defects caught, accuracy and processing time driven by actual usage.

Improvements

  • Files moved under the Sales menu; the standalone Production menu group retired, so order-adjacent screens live together.
  • One consistent pagination style across every list.
  • Clearer page and section subtitles that state what each screen is for.
  • The daily license cron always re-validates; a trial upgraded to Premium auto-activates Pro without re-entering the key.
  • All dashboard/support links unified to cmsmart.net/dashboard/*; the old dashboard.cmsmart.net is retired, and an AI Insights link was added.
  • The License screen was reframed around the “one store = one project” model.

Fixes

  • AngularJS option builder broke on block / FSE themes — fixed.
  • Fixed a spacing gap that left a white band above section headers.
  • Fixed a license-cron field mismatch that stopped re-validation.
  • Fixed an AI usage-logger column bug that pinned “Defects caught” and “Accuracy” at 0.
  • Fixed dead upgrade CTAs and Premium download links that pointed at #.
  • Reworded misleading trial upsell copy.
  • Fixed License-screen accessibility (proper heading and labels).
  • Setup-wizard activation failures now report an error instead of failing silently.

Security

  • CSRF nonce verification added to the setup wizard.
  • Third-party secrets (Printcart, Firebase, SFTP) can be set via wp-config.php constants instead of living in the database.
  • Server-side SVG sanitization, strict upload allowlists, and PHP execution blocked in the upload folder.
  • TLS verification on all license/studio calls, and an old open-proxy (SSRF) endpoint removed (2.9.1–2.9.2).
  • Escaped order-export output and added rel="noopener" to external links.

Requires WordPress 5.6+, WooCommerce 8.0+, PHP 8.0+. HPOS-compatible.

Try it on your store

  • Already a customer? Update with confidence — your license, designs and files are safe — then spend five minutes in the new Overview and Clients. That’s where 2.10.0 pays for itself.
  • New here? Install the plugin, click Activate my license, enter your email, and your 30-day free trial starts — everything in this guide is yours to try.
  • Ready to grow? Open your Cmsmart Dashboard to upgrade to Premium.
  • Questions? Open a ticket from your dashboard, or join the conversation in the Cmsmart Community.

As always, thank you for building your business with Cmsmart. I read the feedback personally — if there’s a web-to-print workflow you’d like us to cover next, tell us in the comments.
