In short

How do you switch from Printlane to Cmsmart Product Designer?

Fair comparison

Where Printlane is strong

  • Print-ready PDFs with text converted to outlines, and a wide range of accepted upload formats. [3]

  • Unlimited templates and designs on every listed tier, with a 30-day trial. [4]

Migration path

What happens to your designs, templates and orders

Printlane's help center says its API can import templates, submit order information and export designs. That makes an assisted export of your templates and designs possible, but the files are tied to its own design format, so we rebuild templates in the new editor and agree which designs to keep.

DataWhat we do
Customer designs and filesOriginal customer upload files are stored and downloadable, and designs can be exported through the API, according to Printlane's docs. We agree with you which designs are worth recreating. [5]
TemplatesRebuilt in Cmsmart Online Designer from your source artwork (SVG, PDF or image files), with locked layers and template fields set up where needed. Scoped in the free assessment.
Products, options and pricesPrint areas, option sets and price rules are rebuilt in Cmsmart Pricing Options from your product and price list, then tested against it.
OrdersPast orders are imported into WooCommerce as read-only history where your store platform can export them. Orders still in production are finished on the old setup before cut-over.
Store URLsIf the store platform or domain changes, every old product URL gets a 301 to its new address from a CSV you approve.

Process

How the switch runs

The timeline is set in the free assessment. It depends on how many products, templates and orders you have.

  1. Free assessment: your platform, catalogue size, apps, integrations and goals.
  2. Data map and redirect map: what moves, what is rebuilt, and every old URL with its new address.
  3. Staging migration: your data in a private WooCommerce store you can open and test.
  4. QA: data counts, URLs, checkout, emails and tracking checked against your list.
  5. Cut-over: final data sync and DNS switch, planned for your quietest hours.
  6. 30-day watch: crawl errors, redirects and rankings reviewed after launch.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can I import my Printlane templates into Cmsmart?

Printlane's help center says its API can import templates, submit order information and export designs. That makes an assisted export of your templates and designs possible, but the files are tied to its own design format, so we rebuild templates in the new editor and agree which designs to keep.

Will my customers' saved designs move?

Saved designs are tied to the format of the tool that made them, so we agree with you which ones are worth recreating and rebuild those. Customers can start new designs from the migrated templates.

Do I have to change my store platform?

Printlane integrates with several platforms. If your store is on WordPress with WooCommerce it can stay where it is; on Shopify, Magento or Lightspeed, the switch also means moving the store to WooCommerce.

What does the switch cost?

Cmsmart does not publish a price list for services. The switch is quoted per project after a free assessment, based on your catalogue, templates and integrations, with no obligation.

Is Cmsmart a better choice than Printlane?

Not in every case. In our reading, Printlane is best for: Merchants and printers on Shopify, Magento, Lightspeed or WordPress who want a hosted designer that hands them print-ready PDFs. Cmsmart Product Designer fits stores that want to own a WooCommerce store with print-ready output, price rules and artwork approval built in. The assessment says honestly when staying put is the better choice.

How are the facts on this page sourced?

Printlane facts come from its own pages, read on 10 October 2026 and listed with links under Sources. Cmsmart facts are checked against the plugin. Anything we could not confirm is marked not verified.
