In short

How do you switch from PrintXpand to Cmsmart Product Designer?

Fair comparison

Where PrintXpand is strong

  • An on-premise option with source code delivered, as well as managed cloud. [1]

  • Variable data printing with CSV import, per-record preview and barcode and QR generation. [3]

Migration path

What happens to your designs, templates and orders

PrintXpand documents a versioned REST API for products, pricing, artwork, orders, customers and vendors, with a sandbox. Data import is documented only for variable-data CSV, and nothing describes moving designs or templates between tools. An API export of products, customers and orders can feed the migration; templates are rebuilt.

DataWhat we do
Customer designs and filesThe REST API covers artwork and orders, so an assisted export is possible if your plan exposes it. Designs are tied to its own format, so we agree which are worth recreating. [6]
TemplatesRebuilt in Cmsmart Online Designer from your source artwork (SVG, PDF or image files), with locked layers and template fields set up where needed. Scoped in the free assessment.
Products, options and pricesPrint areas, option sets and price rules are rebuilt in Cmsmart Pricing Options from your product and price list, then tested against it.
OrdersPast orders are imported into WooCommerce as read-only history where your store platform can export them. Orders still in production are finished on the old setup before cut-over.
Store URLsIf the store platform or domain changes, every old product URL gets a 301 to its new address from a CSV you approve.

Process

How the switch runs

The timeline is set in the free assessment. It depends on how many products, templates and orders you have.

  1. Free assessment: your platform, catalogue size, apps, integrations and goals.
  2. Data map and redirect map: what moves, what is rebuilt, and every old URL with its new address.
  3. Staging migration: your data in a private WooCommerce store you can open and test.
  4. QA: data counts, URLs, checkout, emails and tracking checked against your list.
  5. Cut-over: final data sync and DNS switch, planned for your quietest hours.
  6. 30-day watch: crawl errors, redirects and rankings reviewed after launch.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can I import my PrintXpand templates into Cmsmart?

PrintXpand documents a versioned REST API for products, pricing, artwork, orders, customers and vendors, with a sandbox. Data import is documented only for variable-data CSV, and nothing describes moving designs or templates between tools. An API export of products, customers and orders can feed the migration; templates are rebuilt.

Will my customers' saved designs move?

Saved designs are tied to the format of the tool that made them, so we agree with you which ones are worth recreating and rebuild those. Customers can start new designs from the migrated templates.

Do I have to change my store platform?

PrintXpand can run its own storefront or connect to WooCommerce. If your storefront is already on WooCommerce only the designer and print workflow change; otherwise the store moves to WooCommerce as well.

What does the switch cost?

Cmsmart does not publish a price list for services. The switch is quoted per project after a free assessment, based on your catalogue, templates and integrations, with no obligation.

Is Cmsmart a better choice than PrintXpand?

Not in every case. In our reading, PrintXpand is best for: Print shops, promo distributors and merch brands that want an enterprise stack, optionally self-hosted. Cmsmart Product Designer fits stores that want to own a WooCommerce store with print-ready output, price rules and artwork approval built in. The assessment says honestly when staying put is the better choice.

How are the facts on this page sourced?
