Applies to Cmsmart Product Designer (NBDesigner) 2.17.0 · Updated October 2026. Everything below is read from the Cmsmart > Overview screen in WP Admin, the Clients, Orders and Cmsmart Cloud screens it links to, and the public 2.17.0 changelog — no field or number here is invented.

In short

  • The Cmsmart Product Designer dashboard (Cmsmart > Overview) gives an owner or shop manager one screen for revenue, orders, production, AI usage, at-risk clients and unfinished setup, instead of five.
  • It works by pulling WooCommerce order data, the Cmsmart Clients CRM and Cmsmart Cloud AI usage into stat cards, a 30-day revenue chart, a care queue and quick links, refreshed on page load.
  • Setting it up takes no configuration: it appears automatically once the plugin is active and WooCommerce has orders; reading it well takes a two-minute daily habit and, for teams that outgrow it, custom KPI widgets.

A print shop owner who wants to know whether yesterday was a good day currently checks WooCommerce orders, a spreadsheet, and a chat thread with the shop floor. The Cmsmart Product Designer dashboard puts revenue, production status, at-risk clients and AI usage on one screen, so that daily check takes two minutes instead of twenty.

That single screen is Cmsmart > Overview in WP Admin, shipped with every install — no extra plugin, no separate reporting tool. This chapter reads every element on it, shows what a print shop, a POD brand and a B2B account manager should each watch first, and flags the mistakes we see admins make with it.

Why does checking orders, revenue and clients by hand cost a print shop money?

Cmsmart Product Designer's Overview dashboard replaces the morning ritual of pulling WooCommerce orders, a spending spreadsheet and a CRM export into one screen, so an owner spots a stalled order or an at-risk client in minutes instead of losing an hour to three different logins.

Before a dashboard like this exists, the daily routine at most small shops looks the same:

  • Revenue is a guess until month-end. Nobody opens WooCommerce > Reports every morning, so a bad week is noticed two weeks late.
  • Production status lives in someone's head. "Where are we on order #1675?" gets answered by walking to the press, not a screen.
  • At-risk clients go quiet. A customer who placed one large order and never came back needs a win-back email, but nobody is tracking it.
  • AI and system costs are invisible. Background removal, upscale and preflight calls run against a token balance nobody checks until it runs out mid-order.
  • Setup gaps sit unnoticed. A newly imported product never enabled for customization quietly turns away every customer who tries to personalize it.

None of this is specific to Cmsmart: small business owners spend roughly a third of a 45–50 hour work week on manual admin and reporting tasks, according to a 2025 Xero analysis of owner surveys. For a shop running on WooCommerce, which reports more than 7 million active installations, that admin time is usually spent re-deriving numbers a dashboard could already show at login.

What would it look like if the dashboard actually ran your morning?

Cmsmart Product Designer's Overview screen is built so a shop owner's first two minutes at a desk replace the first twenty: one glance at revenue, production and the care queue decides what gets done before lunch.

Example scenario. A shop owner opens wp-admin before the first coffee. The Overview screen already shows overnight orders moving into production, a server notification worth a quick note to the host, and a few quiet clients in the care queue. Before the coffee is finished, the owner has forwarded one order to the print floor, sent one win-back email, and flagged one hosting ticket — all from the same screen, no spreadsheet opened.

That is the intent of the screen: not a vanity report, but a worklist generated from the store's own data.

How does Cmsmart's Overview dashboard turn store data into a daily worklist?

Cmsmart Product Designer assembles the Overview screen from three data sources already in your store: WooCommerce orders, the Cmsmart Clients CRM and Cmsmart Cloud AI usage, laid out as stat cards, a trend chart, a care queue and quick links, so nothing needs a separate report.

Four building blocks make up the screen:

  • Stat cards. Revenue, Orders and In production for the last 30 days, plus an AI Tokens balance, each linking into the matching screen.
  • Revenue trend and activity. A 30-day bar chart plus a Recent orders / Recent activity feed, so a spike or stall is visible without opening Reports.
  • Notifications and Care queue. System checks plus client-lifecycle counts (at-risk, open quotes, design-abandoned, leads) from the Clients CRM Cmsmart added in version 2.10.0.
  • Clients, Top products and Quick actions. A 30-day client summary, best-selling design-enabled products, and shortcuts into Import Products, Manage Products, Cliparts, Fonts and Settings.

Every number on this screen comes from aggregate SQL rather than loading full order objects. Cmsmart rebuilt the Overview and Clients queries in version 2.13.3 specifically so stores with a long order history stop timing out, walking the order history in batches of 200 instead of pulling every row into memory at once.

What's the ROI of reading the Overview dashboard every day?

Cmsmart Product Designer's Overview screen turns a 15-to-20-minute multi-tab routine into a two-minute scan, and the saved time compounds: a care-queue win-back caught a week earlier, or a production backlog spotted before a customer calls, both show up as retained revenue rather than admin hours.

BenefitHow it shows up in your businessKPI to track
Faster daily triageOwner or manager decides the day's priorities from one screen instead of threeMinutes spent on the morning admin check
Fewer missed at-risk clientsCare queue turns a quiet account into a visible, actionable countAt-risk count trend, win-back reply rate
Caught setup gapsThe Not enabled yet list stops a newly imported product from silently losing design ordersDays between import and enabling
Controlled AI spendAI Tokens card flags a balance before it blocks preflight mid-monthTokens used vs. remaining, by week

Back-of-envelope ROI: (minutes saved per daily check) × (checks per month) × (your hourly cost) = monthly time value. Example: dropping a 20-minute multi-screen routine to a 3-minute dashboard scan, over 22 working days a month, recovers roughly 6 hours of admin time — before counting a single saved client or caught production delay.

Cmsmart insight: In our projects, the dashboards an owner actually opens every day are the ones with four or fewer numbers above the fold. Stacking on more KPIs than that usually means people stop looking at any of them. Pick the two or three cards that match your business model — production backlog for a print shop, AI token balance for a POD brand, open quotes for a B2B account manager — and treat the rest as backup.

How to set up your morning around the Cmsmart Product Designer dashboard

The Cmsmart Product Designer dashboard needs no configuration of its own: install and activate Cmsmart Product Designer 2.17.0, let WooCommerce record a few orders, and the Overview screen populates itself — the steps below are about reading it well, not setting it up.

  1. Confirm Cmsmart Product Designer 2.17.0 (or later) is active under Plugins — the Overview menu only appears once the plugin is running.
  2. Open WP Admin > Cmsmart > Overview.
  3. Pick All orders or Design orders only at the top, depending on whether you want full WooCommerce totals or just orders that used the designer.
  4. Check the four stat cards — Revenue, Orders, In production, AI Tokens — against what you expected for the last 30 days.
  5. Scan the Revenue trend chart for an unexplained drop or spike before it becomes a month-end surprise.
  6. Open any item under Notifications and resolve it, or forward it to your host if it is server-level.
  7. Work the Care queue: send a win-back note to at-risk clients, follow up open quotes, nudge abandoned designs.
  8. Check Not enabled yet and enable any product you want customers to personalize.
  9. Skim Recent orders and Recent activity for anything stuck in review.
  10. Use Quick actions to jump into Import Products, Manage Products, Cliparts, Fonts or Settings instead of the left-hand menu.

Common mistakes on the Overview dashboard

  • Reading "In production" as a queue you can reorder from here — open Orders instead.
  • Leaving "Design orders only" off, then comparing Revenue (30D) to a designer-specific report that will never match.
  • Ignoring a Notifications item because orders still come through — some checks only break emails, syncs or AI calls, quietly, for weeks.
  • Treating "Not enabled yet" as a one-time step instead of a recurring check after every import.

Troubleshooting the Overview dashboard

  • Stat cards all show zero: confirm WooCommerce is active and an order has a Cmsmart design attached — with "Design orders only" on, cards count designer-linked activity only.
  • AI Tokens shows a dash: open Cmsmart Cloud > AI Tools to confirm the license is connected and has a balance.
  • A Notifications item won't clear: open System info to see which setting it flags, then ask your host to change it.

Can Cmsmart build a dashboard beyond what ships today?

The Overview screen covers orders, revenue, clients and AI usage out of the box; when a shop needs press-floor status, a multi-location split, or KPIs synced from an ERP, Cmsmart builds that as custom development on top of the same data the dashboard already reads.

Ideas we build most often once a shop outgrows the stock screen:

  • ERP/MIS-synced production status. "In production" reflects WooCommerce order status, not the real press queue — Cmsmart builds an integration that pulls actual floor status into the same card.
  • Configurable date ranges. A B2B account manager works to a monthly billing cycle, not a rolling 30 days — Cmsmart builds a date-range picker matching the 7/30/90-day pattern already used on the Cmsmart Cloud AI Tools tab.
  • Multi-location or multi-brand dashboards. A shop with two locations needs separate revenue and care queues, not one blended view — Cmsmart builds role-based dashboard scoping as custom development.
  • Scheduled digest emails. Not every owner opens wp-admin daily — Cmsmart builds an email digest of the same stat cards, delivered on a schedule.

Every one of these follows the same delivery path: discovery, solution design, sprints, QA and launch, with support after go-live — see how we run ecommerce development projects.

Frequently asked questions about the Cmsmart Product Designer dashboard

Who can see the Cmsmart Overview dashboard?

Anyone with WordPress shop-manager or administrator access, the same capability WooCommerce itself uses to gate its own reports — there is no separate Overview-specific permission.

Does the dashboard slow down a store with a long order history?

No. Cmsmart rebuilt the Overview and Clients queries in version 2.13.3 to scan orders in batches with aggregate SQL instead of loading every order object into memory, specifically to fix stores with a large order history timing out on this screen.

Why does "Orders (30D)" not match the total on the Orders screen?

They measure different windows: the Overview card counts the last 30 days, while the Orders screen opens on your store's all-time total until you apply a filter. Compare them with the same date range selected on both screens.

Can I change the Overview screen's 30-day window to 7 or 90 days?

Not on the Overview screen itself today — that range picker currently exists on the Cmsmart Cloud > AI Tools > Overview tab. A configurable range for the main dashboard is the kind of change Cmsmart builds as custom development, scoped through our project delivery process.
